About the product:

 Our project team developed an educational software title that provides training to those considering adopting a puppy. Have you ever heard this, "some people should have to pass a test before owning a pet"?

Many people are not aware of the full responsibilities associated with owning a pet and they are often unprepared for the lifelong commitment. The end result is often an unwanted pet discarded to live in a shelter or worse.

After successfully completing a preset sequence of learning modules, a user of this software title will be able to earn The Golden Leash Award. This Award is only available to those who complete the mini quizzes with 100% accuracy.

  4. Training your Puppy

About the process:

Brainstorming: we brought together a team of four individuals from a variety of age groups and educational backgrounds to identify a new Multimedia Title to develop. Many suggestions were mentioned; however it was the concept titled "My First Puppy" that caught everyone's attention.

Research & Development: after identifying a product, we began to research the topic in greater detail. Our research showed that no similar or existing products were currently available to teach potential owners about adopting a puppy. We also selected various online and written documents to be used as reference material when developing content to be included in the Multimedia Title.

The Learner Analysis:

  1. Age 10 and up
  2. Have use of a Pentium Computer
  3. Have basic Windows 95 skills
  4. Have an interest in adopting a puppy
  5. Education level would be determined by basic Windows 95 skills as the reading level of the program will be basic with simplified terms.
Scope Document & Storyboard: before the production stage, we had to determine how to present the content to our target audience. A user would be able to navigate an application using a puppy paw cursor. The background of the screens would be a bright color with printed puppy tracks. The graphics consists of cute puppies and provided interaction in the form of cute voiceovers during cursor interaction. Yes, there is even more work to developing a Multimedia Title, however I will spare you the remaining details.

Timeframe and Budget:

The project was completed within "(7) weeks". The project was delivered on time, on budget and bug free.

Development Tools:

Macromedia Director 6.5, MS Project, Adobe Photoshop 5, Soundforge 4.5 and Hotdog.
